BRUCE SKI CLUB CONSTITUTION Revised April, 1982 ARTICLE I NAME The name of the club shall be the Bruce Ski Club, hereinafter referred to as the "B.S.C." ARTICLE II AIM AND OBJECTIVES AIM: To promote all aspects of cross country skiing. OBJECTIVES: 1. to provide for the development of skills and knowledge related to cross country skiing 2. to provide for the development of recreational skiing 3. to provide for the development of competititive skiing 4. to maintain and develop ski trails in the Bruce Peninsula 5. to serve as a resource centre for cross country skiing in the Bruce Peninsula ARTICLE III MEMBERSHIP Membership shall consist of four categories which includethe following: 1. Honorary owners of land over which club trails cross, and any other person or group upon whom the executive votes. 2. Patron an individual, business or group which pays a patron's fee. Patrons shall have access to club information, and shall be recognized as club supporters. 3. Family two or more members of the same immediate family who pay a family fee. 4. Individual a person who pays an individual fee. Members who pay club fees shall belong to the B.S.C. from November I of one year until October 31 of the next year. These members shall be entitled to take part in the B.S.C. activities. Patrons and honorary members shall have the right to have two representative members participate in B.S.C. activities. ARTICLE IV FEES Membership fees shall be reviewed and determined annually by the Executive. ARTICLE V EXECUTIVE The Executive shall consist of the Past-President, President, Vice-President, SecretaryTreasurer and six Directors. Members of the Executive shall be B.S.C. members and shall be elected by the B.S.C membership. If a member of the Executive decides to withdraw from his/her position during the year that person shall be replaced at the discretion of the President. ARTICLE VI EXECUTIVE FUNCTION The Executive is responsible for the operation of the B.S.C. An Executive meeting shall be called during the first week of each month from September through April inclusive or as deemed necessary and called for by the President. ARTICLE VII EXECUTIVE DUTIES 1. Duties of the President: (i) shall be responsible for all matters pertaining to the B.S.C. in accordance with the Constitution (ii) shall co-ordinate the activities of the B.S.C. (iii) shall call executive and general meetings when requested or when he/she feels they are necessary. (iv) shall chair and conduct meetings in a business-like manner 2. Duties of the Past-President: (i) shall act in the capacity of an advisor (ii) shall act as chairperson of the nominating committee (iii) shall ensure that regular communication is maintained with landowners. 3. Duties of the Vice-President: (i) shall assist the President (ii) shall take over the duties of the President' in his or her absence (iii) shall be responsible for B.S.C. fund-raising activities as well as promoting new memberships 4. Duties of the Secretary/Treasurer (i) shall record minutes of meetings (ii) shall handle correspondence (iii) shall record attendance at meetings (iv) shall be responsible for the collection and disbursement of club monies and shall be accountable for them (v) shall maintain an adequate set of records (vi) shall collect membership fees and handle registration of club members 5. Additional duties of Executive and Directors: At the first meeting of each new executive and directors, responsibilities shall be assumed for the following ti.,;k.-;: (i) Instruction - organizing clinics, seminars and lessons, (ii) Tours - planning and coordination of tours (iii) Competition - organizing races, time trials and other competitive events (iv) Trails - planning, development and maintenance (v) Publicity - publication of newsletter and other publicity (vi) Representatives to Bru-Ski (vii) Other roles as deemed necessaryu by the President. ARTICLE VIII ELECTIONS 1. Notice of the election of the new executive shall be given at least one month in advance. 2. Election of the executive for the upcoming year shall take place at the spring general meeting. Both the previous executive and the newly elected executive shall meet jointly once in April to discuss any previous business before the new executive takes over. 3. A nominating committee, chaired by the PastPresident, shall present a slate of officers 'it the spring general meeting Additional nominations shall be accepted from the floor. 4. Voting shall take place by a show of hands or by secret ballot if deemed necessary. 5. Voting for the executive shall take place for each position if elections are necessary. Six directors may be elected as a slate. if more than six are nominated, voting shall be by secret ballot. ' 6. Individual members shall be given one vote per member. Family members, patrons, and honorary members shall be allowed two votes per member- if enough members are present to warrant them. ARTICLE IX MEETINGS 1. At least two general meetings shall take place each year. One meeting shall take place in the fall so that membership fees can be collected for the new year. The other meeting shall take place ' in the spring so that elections for the next year can be field. 2. Conduct at meetings shall be in accordance with basic Parliamentary procedure. 3. A quorum of 50% attendance must exist at executive meetings for business to be transacted. ARTICLE X AMENDMENTS TO THE CONSTITUTION Amendments may be made to the Constitution by a majority vote of club members who are present at the fall and spring general meetings which are noted in Article IX
